What can you expect if we work together?
I understand it can feel daunting to begin your counselling journey, it can be difficult to know which counsellor to choose or to even imagine what happens in the counselling room.
I believe counselling is similar to decluttering your attic- but for your thoughts! In counselling, we take that overflowing box of thoughts, empty it out, then decide what to keep and what to let go of. The things you decide to keep we fold up neatly and put them back in the box. Counselling cannot ‘undo’ your experiences, but can help you make sense of them, and carry them in a way that feels less overwhelming.
Firstly, if you decide to reach out to me to arrange an appointment, we will have an initial consultation of 30 minutes. During this session I will invite you to let me know a bit about you and what has brought you to counselling. This also gives you the chance to meet me and ask any questions you might have about how I work. I believe counselling is collaborative, and it is important you feel we would be a good match to work together.
Following this consultation, should you decide to work with me, we will set up an appointment time (usually the same day and time each week.) The sessions can take place in-person or online.
Once we are in the session together, what should we talk about? Well this is entirely up to you! As a person- centred counsellor I will take my lead from you. You are not expected to know exactly what you want to talk about in each session. We will work together at your pace.
